Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) is warning of strong winds in several regions of the country on Sunday, Oct. 25. The danger is greatest in southern Silesia and Lower Silesia, where gusts could reach as high as 100 km/h (about 62 mph).

Level 2 warnings are in effect in the south of the Silesian and Lower Silesian voivodeships (provinces). Southerly winds there are averaging up to 50 km/h, with gusts up to 90 km/h and in places up to 100 km/h.

Level 1 warnings, with gusts up to 80 km/h, cover the north of the West Pomeranian and Pomeranian voivodeships, the northwestern edge of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, the south of Podkarpacie and Lesser Poland, and part of Lower Silesia. All of the warnings have been in effect since Sunday morning and will remain in force until 9 p.m. at the latest (3 p.m. Chicago time).

Forecasters also issued an alert for a severe storm on the coast of the southeastern Baltic Sea, valid until 4 p.m.

Residents of Bielsko-Biała and the Bielsko, Cieszyn and Żywiec counties received an alert from the Government Security Center (RCB). The RCB urges people to be careful outdoors and to secure items that the wind could carry off. If you have loved ones in these regions, it is worth reminding them.
