Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), Poland’s state-controlled defense group, is analyzing the construction of its first plant in Opole Voivodeship. It is the only region in Poland today without a PGZ factory. The first letter of intent could be signed as early as this year.
PGZ President Adam Leszkiewicz spoke about the plans at the 5th Regional Economic Congress in Opole, held Oct. 23. For now, one specific project is under analysis. The plant could be built with a foreign partner. “Perhaps we will sign the first letter of intent this year,” Leszkiewicz said.
No specific location, type of production or number of jobs was given. Universities, proximity to the A4 motorway and industrial zones in Ujazd and Gogolin were cited as the region’s assets. Rafał Żelazny, president of the Katowice Special Economic Zone, confirmed that a large investment tied to the defense industry is being prepared. PGZ and the zone are expected to announce details soon.
The region is already preparing to work with the industry. Voivodeship Marshal Szymon Ogłaza noted that the Opole Defense Cluster, which includes about 200 companies, was established in April.
