Poland will hand over two MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. The transfer is to take place soon, the daily Rzeczpospolita reported on Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Dariusz Łukowski (reserve), director of the Department of Defense Strategy and Planning at the Ministry of National Defense, confirmed to Rzeczpospolita that two MiG-29s will be transferred to Ukraine.

Łukowski said the MiGs would be handed over “in the near future.” The newspaper found that the service life, or period of operational usability, of one of the aircraft has already expired, while the other machine “is still flying.”

The newspaper notes that in September, representatives of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Poland’s donation to Ukraine was to reach a value of 50 million euros and would also include air defense equipment.

“Poland is preparing another aid package for Ukraine. The limit on the scale of support is the security of the Polish state and the resources of the armed forces, as determined by the chief of the General Staff. As the head of the Ministry of National Defense said, we are preparing support that includes equipment that is being phased out of use by the Polish Armed Forces (its service life is ending), equipment that would not be used by the Polish military but could be put to good use in Ukraine,” according to information from the Defense Ministry cited by Rzeczpospolita. The newspaper points out that the ministry did not provide details on the contents of the support package for Kyiv. (PAP)
