Davie Road Collapse Closes Northbound Pine Island Road Lanes

Must read

A section of South Pine Island Road in Davie collapsed after a water main break. Police closed all northbound lanes between Southwest 30th Street and Southwest 36th Street.

According to Davie police, the road damage was reported overnight from Wednesday into Thursday, Oct. 29. Around 1 a.m., officers began warning drivers to avoid the stretch. NBC Miami reported that a large hole opened in the roadway and that traffic was disrupted overnight and into Thursday morning.

WSVN reported that the break occurred Wednesday evening near the Grande Oaks golf course. According to the station, the water main itself has already been repaired. Northbound Pine Island Road remains closed, however, because of repair work. Drone footage showed a small sinkhole in the area of the 3300 block of Pine Island Road.

According to WSVN, all traffic is being directed west or turned around. Police advise drivers to take detours and avoid the closed stretch.

It is not known how long the closure will last or when repairs to the roadway will be completed. Residents driving north on Pine Island Road on Thursday should allow extra travel time.
