Tusk Says Meeting With Nawrocki Will Be One-on-One

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Wednesday that his meeting with President Karol Nawrocki will be a one-on-one conversation. The head of government added that “the rest is a secret.”

The prime minister announced Tuesday, after a meeting of the National Security Council (RBN), that he had offered to meet this week “to consider how to permanently lower tensions in the country.” On Wednesday, presidential officials assured that the president’s calendar would certainly have room for such a meeting and that it is a matter of the next few days.

At a press conference Wednesday, Tusk was asked how far along the arrangements for the meeting are, and when and in what format it will take place.

“It will be a one-on-one meeting, the rest is a secret,” the prime minister said.

Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the President’s Chancellery, said Wednesday in an interview with Telewizja Republika that there is no date yet for a meeting between the president and the prime minister, but that it is a matter of the next few days.

In a Wednesday interview on Polish Radio, presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz, asked about a Tusk-Nawrocki meeting, said it should take place as soon as possible, although “it’s hard to say whether this week, but certainly soon,” and that the president’s calendar will certainly have room for it. He also suggested that the topic of the one-on-one conversation could be a “broad range of actions” the president could take regarding the crisis surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal (TK).

The situation at the Constitutional Tribunal was raised during Tuesday’s National Security Council meeting, which was originally supposed to be devoted to the topic of a U.S. base in Poland. During the open part of the meeting, the president said that the situation at the Constitutional Tribunal had led to a serious constitutional crisis. (PAP)
