Republicans held all three Florida Cabinet seats on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Attorney General James Uthmeier, Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson defeated their Democratic challengers.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, each of the three Republicans won by about two percentage points, with a result of roughly 51% to 49%. During the vote count, when more than 85% of ballots had been tallied, the margin stood at 51% to 48%. The results were not a big surprise in a state dominated by Republicans. The winners did, however, have clearly more campaign money than their rivals.
Uthmeier defeated former state Sen. Jose Javier Rodriguez. Ingoglia beat former state Sen. Annette Taddeo. Simpson won against attorney Joey Mendoza Atkins. For Uthmeier, this is a first elected term. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed him to the post in February 2025, when Ashley Moody became a U.S. senator. Before that, Uthmeier was the governor’s chief of staff.
Ingoglia took over as chief financial officer in July 2025, succeeding Jimmy Patronis. He previously served eight years in the Florida House of Representatives and two years in the state Senate. Simpson was first elected agriculture commissioner in 2022. Before that, he was president of the Florida Senate.
All three candidates had the backing of Gov. DeSantis. President Donald Trump endorsed Simpson and Uthmeier. He did not endorse anyone in the race for chief financial officer because his preferred candidate dropped out of the campaign.
The Florida Cabinet consists of the governor and three elected officials. Thanks to Tuesday’s results, Uthmeier, Ingoglia and Simpson will remain on it for another term.
