Approval of Donald Trump rose to 32%, up 1 percentage point from last week’s survey, according to a new Ipsos poll for the Reuters news agency. Last week’s result was the worst for the current U.S. president in the history of the poll.
With just over a week to go before the midterm elections to Congress, 66% of respondents have a negative opinion of Trump. The Democrats’ lead over Republicans also shrank by 1 percentage point, to 11%. In the poll published a week earlier, both the Democratic Party’s lead and Trump’s ratings were at record lows for the current governing side in the U.S.
The poll surveyed 1,679 American adults, including 1,280 registered voters; the margin of error is 2 percentage points. The polling average calculated by The New York Times gives Trump 37% approval. Here, too, it is only 1 percentage point higher than the current president’s worst result.
The elections, to be held Nov. 3, will determine the new makeup of the House of Representatives, 33 of the 100 senators and governors in 36 states.
According to the Cook Political Report, Democrats have a chance to take control of the House and regain a majority in the Senate. They are also favorites in at least 19 gubernatorial races.
