Police in Colton, California, have recovered 350 boxes of Hot Wheels toy cars with an estimated value of $54,000, stolen during a freight train heist. Officers detained a suspect after a call to the 911 emergency number. The man was taken to the West Valley Detention Center.
According to the Colton Police Department, the call concerned a black pickup truck whose driver was loading cartons into the back of the vehicle at the end of a cul-de-sac. “A black pickup truck was parked at the end of their cul-de-sac, and several boxes were being loaded into the bed,” said Jillian Nunez of the local police.
After receiving the report, one of the officers began watching the area from under a nearby bridge. When the suspect drove away, officers stepped in and detained the man. He was charged with burglary, possession of stolen property and theft of property of significant value.
It is the latest such incident in the Inland Empire region. Earlier in the same month, a group of theft suspects set off a police chase, then abandoned their car in Crestline and fled.
