Gov. JB Pritzker Pledges to Make Illinois More Affordable in Third Term

JB Pritzker thanked voters on Wednesday for their trust and for electing him to a third term as governor of Illinois. Pritzker secured another four-year term in Tuesday’s midterm elections. The Democrat defeated Republican Darren Bailey for the second time, winning 59% of the vote.

Speaking with reporters, Pritzker said he will now focus on his campaign promises. The Illinois governor has long been mentioned among possible Democratic candidates in the 2028 presidential election. Pritzker began his public appearances on Wednesday at Peach’s on 47th restaurant, at 4652 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, together with newly elected Lt. Gov. Christian Mitchell.

Pleased voters welcomed Pritzker at the restaurant. The governor posed for photos and thanked voters for their continued support. In his campaign, Pritzker highlighted his record of balancing the state budget, protecting reproductive rights and standing up to President Donald Trump. Pritzker pledged to focus during his third term on making life in Illinois more affordable. That includes building more housing and working to lower electricity bills.

“Well, as I’ve said, we’re doing everything in our power both to lower electricity costs and insurance costs, to make sure food assistance is restored for people and Medicaid, and to prevent them from losing that health insurance program,” Pritzker said. “So we have to provide broad protection for people, and also increase their chances of getting ahead through higher wages and lower costs of living,” he added.

Newly elected Lt. Gov. Mitchell is a former Illinois state representative who previously served as one of Pritzker’s deputy governors. Mitchell will replace Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, who was elected to the U.S. Senate on Tuesday. Reporters also asked Pritzker about his further political aspirations, including a possible run for president. “I appreciate the trust of the people of Illinois, and I intend to continue working for them,” he replied evasively.
