85% of Chicago Voters Say City Should Seek Compensation for “Midway Blitz” Immigration Operation

Must read

Chicago voters said the city should seek compensation from the federal government for “Midway Blitz.” The immigration enforcement operation, carried out on behalf of President Donald Trump’s administration, caused chaos on the streets of Chicago and in many parts of Illinois in the fall of 2025. It became a symbol of aggression against not only undocumented immigrants but also U.S. citizens.

Among the questions put to Chicago voters on the ballot in Tuesday’s midterm elections was an advisory question on whether the city should try to recover the financial losses it incurred during Operation Midway Blitz. Nearly 85% of Chicago voters answered that city officials should seek compensation from the White House, while 15% said they should not.

The question read: “Should the City of Chicago take all lawful measures to obtain financial compensation from the federal government for the costs and economic damage caused by the brutal, militarized ICE operations carried out by the administration of Donald Trump, including Operation Midway Blitz led by Greg Bovino, in order to recover lost tax revenue, cover the costs of public safety operations, and cover the costs of services provided to residents and families affected by these operations?”
