Brightline announced Monday evening that it is suspending Orlando–West Palm Beach service because of high water on the rail corridor in Brevard County. According to the operator, trains will not resume before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Service between West Palm Beach and Miami is running normally. That includes the stations in Aventura, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.
Once the water recedes, crews will inspect the tracks, signals and crossings in the affected area. Only then will passenger trains be able to return to the line. Brightline is monitoring the situation together with Florida East Coast Railway and the Brevard County emergency management office.
Passengers whose reservations are affected by the change are to be notified directly about their travel options. The operator advises checking for updates on GoBrightline.com, in the Brightline app and on social media.
Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding in central Florida. In southern Brevard County, as much as 22 inches of rain (about 560 mm) fell in places, and some schools have closed. More rain is possible through Wednesday, with improvement forecast afterward.
The date service will resume is not clear. Most sources give Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 8:30 p.m., but one local news outlet reported the suspension would last until 2 p.m. Thursday. Brightline said it will issue further updates, so travelers should check the current status before heading out. Officials remind drivers to avoid flooded roads and not to drive into flooded sections.
