Americans have shown they want politics that unites rather than divides, former Democratic U.S. President Barack Obama said overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, commenting on the results of the congressional elections.
Obama wrote on X that “Americans sent a clear signal — they want politics that brings people together instead of dividing them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the problems they have to face.”
“Although the current administration will remain in power for two more years, our task now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the opportunity, stop further harmful actions and prepare the ground for the future,” added the former president, who had gotten involved in the campaign ahead of the congressional elections by supporting Democratic candidates.
Democrats have flipped at least six Senate seats previously held by Republicans, securing a majority in the Senate, according to projections based on incomplete results. Democrats will also take control of the House of Representatives. (PAP)
