President Donald Trump visits Fort Myers, Florida, on Friday, Oct. 23, for a Republican Party rally. The event will take place at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. The main goal of the visit is to mobilize Republican voters ahead of the Nov. 3 election and to support Byron Donalds, who is running for governor of Florida.
According to the organizers’ schedule, the program was set to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time, with Donald Trump’s speech scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The doors to the arena opened as early as 10:30 a.m.
Other Republican Party figures are also expected to take part in the event, including U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody.
The president’s visit comes during early voting in Florida. In this year’s elections, the state’s residents will decide, among other things, who will serve as governor, who will hold a U.S. Senate seat, and who will fill seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. One of the most important races is the contest between Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly. Donalds, currently a member of Congress representing southwest Florida, is a political ally of Trump.
Evan Power, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, stressed that Trump’s visit will be an opportunity to present the party’s key proposals. The priorities mentioned include tax cuts, solutions for seniors, and financial support for working families.
“Every election counts. Right now, it all comes down to turnout,” Power said, announcing the event in Fort Myers.
