Tesla to Cut Cybertruck Production in Favor of Autonomous Taxis

Must read

Tesla will scale back production of the Cybertruck, its futuristic electric pickup truck, next year to make room for production of autonomous electric taxis, company chief Elon Musk announced Friday.

“Tesla will gradually reduce Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas starting in the middle of next year to make room for increased production of the Cybercab,” Musk wrote on the platform X, which he also owns.

The billionaire did not explain whether the company intends to end production of the model entirely. The Cybertruck went on sale in late 2023 after several serious delays. As the BBC noted, the Cybertruck’s sales results have not been satisfactory.

Wes Morrill, the project’s chief engineer, suggested that production of the vehicle will in fact be ended. “The Cybertruck was an incredible platform for developing technology, and it will continue in the form of the Cybercab,” Morrill wrote on X.
