The next edition of the Polish Film Festival North America begins in two weeks, on Nov. 6. For more than two weeks, Polish cinema will be on screens in 14 locations across the U.S., with the most screenings in Chicago and the surrounding area, at the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge. Tickets are already on sale.
The festival will open on Friday, Nov. 6, with a gala at the Pickwick Theatre featuring the U.S. premiere of “Lalka” (“The Doll”). The special guest will be Jan Englert, who played the Prince in the film. Tickets to the gala sold out in a few days, and additional screenings of “Lalka” are selling at lightning speed. The next day, Saturday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m., Dwell Studio on Irving Park will host a screening of the documentary “Jan Englert. Spróbuję jeszcze raz pofrunąć” and a meeting with the actor. Seating is limited.
“Jak żyć, żeby nie zwariować”: A Comedy for Friday Night
One of the most anticipated titles in Chicago is the comedy “Jak żyć, żeby nie zwariować,” directed by Tomasz Konecki and Iwona Ogonowska-Konecka. Its heroine, Anka, has everything: a loving husband, successful children, a job she likes and a beautiful apartment in the city center. Then suddenly it all falls apart: her marriage, her job, her relationship with her children, and a bailiff takes an interest in her apartment. Anka must choose whether to give up or to start living her own way, with a courage and sense of humor she never suspected she had.
Magdalena Popławska stars. The cast also includes Piotr Rogucki, Barbara Wypych, Dorota Kolak, Krzysztof Stelmaszyk and Piotr Trojan.
The screening will take place on Friday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. at the Pickwick Theatre, 5 S Prospect Ave. in Park Ridge. Tickets at mojbilet.com.
