Opole Regional Assembly Urges Construction of S46 Expressway

Must read

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, the Opole Voivodeship Sejmik, the region’s elected assembly, adopted an appeal to add the S46 expressway, known as the Old Polish Route (Szlak Staropolski), to the government’s investment plans.

The appeal will go to the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The councilors want the S46 included in the Government National Road Construction Program through 2030, with an outlook to 2033, or in subsequent strategic documents.

The route would run from Kudowa-Zdrój and Kłodzko through Nysa, Opole, Kluczbork, Olesno and Częstochowa, then onward toward Kielce and Lublin, connecting the southwest with municipalities in the east of the country. It could use the bypasses that already exist around Nysa, Otmuchów, Paczków and Niemodlin.

Regional councilor Tomasz Zeman noted that the Opole regional government is not the first to adopt such an appeal. A parliamentary group set up for that purpose is also working on the matter.

However, adoption of the resolution does not mean that preparations for construction have begun. Neither the costs nor the timelines for the project are known.
