“I join the Polish people in mourning this senseless act of cowardice,” Rep. Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Polish caucus in Congress, said Saturday. It is the first reaction from a member of Congress to the attack in Kraków.
“The news of the tragic, unprovoked shooting in the heart of historic Kraków is devastating. I join the Polish people in mourning this senseless act of cowardice,” the Democrat wrote in a statement on the platform X. She said the caucus she leads, the Poland Caucus, and residents of the Great Lakes region stand in solidarity with Poles.
“We pray for the victims, their families and the entire Kraków community,” she added.
The Ohio congresswoman, who is of Polish descent, is the longest-serving woman in the history of the U.S. Congress.
It is the first reaction from Congress and leading U.S. politicians to Saturday’s shooting in Kraków. U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose had posted earlier.
“America stands with Poland and the beloved citizens of Kraków in this dark hour. May the blessed memory of those we lost today ease the pain of those who mourn them,” the diplomat wrote.
