CNN: White House Mood on Election Day “Cautiously Optimistic”

The mood at the White House on the day of the U.S. congressional elections is “cautiously optimistic,” CNN reports. President Donald Trump will follow the incoming results this evening at a gathering with administration officials at the White House.

One of the president’s advisers, who spoke with him Monday evening, said Trump “is an eternal optimist and was in excellent spirits.”

The congressional elections, held at the midpoint of Trump’s term, are seen as a referendum on his presidency.

The president has repeatedly urged his supporters to imagine that by voting for Republican candidates, they are actually voting for him.

Polls so far have pointed to record turnout and a Democratic victory, which could upend the president’s plans for the second half of his term.

In a podcast aired Monday, he said that if Democrats take control of Congress, he will not sign their bills, and he did not rule out becoming “Mr. Veto.” (PAP)
