Carrefour is closing two supermarkets in the Łódź region – at 63 Jana Pawła II St. in Sieradz and in the Galeria Olimpia mall in Bełchatów. The chain also announced the closure of stores in Olsztyn and in Warsaw’s Galeria Bemowo.
The Sieradz store, located on the road leading out of town toward Złoczew, will stay open until the end of October. Employees have contracts through the end of November, during which time they will pack up merchandise and equipment and clean the building. Some products have been marked down for several weeks. Unofficially, a Polish furniture showroom may open in the building.
No closing date has yet been announced for the store in Bełchatów’s Galeria Olimpia.
The company attributes the decision to the expiration of lease agreements at some locations and to long-term unprofitability that a recovery plan failed to fix.
On Sept. 10, 2026, Carrefour Polska notified the County Labor Office in Warsaw of its intention to carry out group layoffs affecting up to 210 people. Consultations with unions ended in late September, and the layoffs are to continue through December. Some employees may be offered transfers to other stores in the chain.
