Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Friday that “restoring the rule of law is our duty.” “After years of lawlessness under the Law and Justice (PiS) party, it is a difficult process, sometimes a painful one, and it requires decisive action. There is no other way,” the head of government stressed on X.

Prime Minister Tusk’s post appeared on the head of government’s profile on X on Friday evening.

Earlier, at about 6 p.m. Friday, the website of the Constitutional Tribunal (TK) posted information about an order for a break in the official duties of Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and Vice President Bartłomiej Sochański. According to information provided to PAP by Maciej Taborowski, Magdalena Bentkowska and Maciej Berek, Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, as the judge with the longest judicial seniority, became the person heading the Constitutional Tribunal and issued orders for breaks in the official duties of Święczkowski and Sochański for a period of one month.

Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek then announced that he had sent the Tribunal five motions to lift immunity — four concerning Święczkowski and a fifth concerning Sochański.

The Warsaw Police Headquarters (Komenda Stołeczna Policji) said Friday that officers are carrying out statutory activities on the grounds of the Constitutional Tribunal’s headquarters, in connection with information provided by Judge Korwin-Piotrowska about possible threats to the lives or health of the Tribunal’s judges and employees. The police are not inside the Tribunal building. (PAP)
