Police in Tallahassee have arrested a 15-year-old boy suspected of firing shots Saturday evening near the Florida A&M University stadium. Twelve people were wounded, including six minors.
The teenager was taken into custody Sunday. He faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and a charge of possession of a firearm by a juvenile with a prior record. Because of the suspect’s age, police are not releasing his personal information.
The shooting took place Saturday at about 8 p.m. in the area of Perry and Manatee streets, behind Bragg Memorial Stadium, as a crowd was leaving the university’s homecoming weekend events. According to police, the shots were fired during a fight between people who knew each other. None of the wounded appears to have been an intended target.
Eleven people were shot, and one suffered an ankle injury while fleeing. The youngest victim is 11 years old. On Sunday, five people had already left the hospital, while six were still hospitalized, one of them in critical condition.
Police Chief Lawrence Revell stressed that the arrest is an important step, but the investigation is continuing and further arrests are possible. Police thanked residents for the video footage that helped identify the suspect.
Anyone with information or video from the scene can call the Tallahassee police line at 850-891-4610 or submit material through the TPD online portal.
