Police in Bradley, Illinois, are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found Thursday evening in a car on an overpass above Interstate 57.
Shortly after 9 p.m., a person concerned about a car that had apparently stopped on the overpass above I-57 approached an officer near the intersection of E. North Street and N. Van Buren Avenue. The officer located the vehicle, which was still moving, and discovered two people inside who had most likely been shot.
The officer called for backup, after which officers were able to get inside the car. Once the car was stopped, the driver was pulled out and officers attempted to resuscitate him. The driver was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the case but preliminarily consider it an isolated incident, and they stress that there is no known threat to the local community. The Kankakee County coroner’s office will conduct the autopsies. The victims’ identities have not yet been released because their next of kin are still being notified.
