Police will close Kraków’s Main Square and the surrounding streets again because investigators will have to conduct a new examination of the scene and secure all evidence, Małopolska police spokeswoman Deputy Insp. Katarzyna Cisło said Sunday. She said officers will be posted at every entrance to the square.

Deputy Insp. Katarzyna Cisło said on Polsat News on Sunday that investigators will again examine and secure the scene of the incident.

– We will be closing the Main Square and the adjacent streets again. Police officers will be stationed at every entrance to the square, because we will have to conduct a new examination and secure all the evidence in daylight, Deputy Insp. Cisło said.

She noted that the same applies to the place where the perpetrator of the shooting was detained.

– The perpetrator’s car has been transported to the Provincial Police Headquarters in Kraków. The same goes for the vehicle that the Subaru struck, as well as a police patrol car, the officer said.

She added that officers and prosecutors will examine them.

She also appealed to eyewitnesses who saw or filmed the incident to come forward to police.

– More than 100 people have come forward to Kraków police. They are being invited to police units and questioned one after another. However, this appeal is still valid. If anyone has a recording or any knowledge, we ask them to contact Kraków police, Deputy Insp. Cisło stressed.

Six people were killed and 16 were injured in Saturday’s shooting, including the 24-year-old perpetrator. The attacker was shot by police officers and detained.

The shooting took place Saturday after 3 p.m. on the Main Square in Kraków. A masked 24-year-old drove a car onto the square and opened fire on random people. The perpetrator was detained after an exchange of fire with police near the intersection of Dietla and Stradomska streets.

Because of the tragedy in Kraków, Sunday and Monday, Nov. 8 and 9, will be days of national mourning. (PAP)
