Americans are electing all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 senators. Tuesday’s congressional elections fall in the middle of President Donald Trump’s four-year term.
The Republican Party currently holds majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate (219-214 in the lower chamber, 53-47 in the upper), but polls show Democrats as favorites to take control of both.
In addition to the congressional elections, 36 states are also holding gubernatorial elections. Americans are also choosing state and local officials.
The last polling places will open in Hawaii at 7 a.m. local time. Polling places in the eastern parts of Indiana and Kentucky will be the first to close. (PAP)
