Teen With Disability Arrested Over Threats Against U.S. President

A 15-year-old student at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, was detained Friday, Oct. 30, after posting entries about killing U.S. President Donald Trump on a school drive. Local police determined that the girl wrote the phrase “how to kill the president” on a school-provided OneDrive account. She reportedly added “just kidding” moments later, but it was too late: A security system automatically detected the suspicious content and then sent an alert about a potential threat to school staff. She was detained soon afterward, and the 15-year-old actively resisted. According to local police, the girl has a disability.

The arrest took place on the day a campaign rally with the U.S. president was held in Daytona Beach. After the system flagged a possible threat, a school employee responsible for security took up the matter.

The detention was rather chaotic. According to local police, the teenager resisted. When an officer tried to handcuff her, the student tried to leave the room, kicked him and flailed her arms. The officer had to use force to subdue her. Even after he brought her to the floor, the teenager continued to resist, making it difficult to handcuff her. Daytona Beach police said that during the struggle, the officer’s stun gun came off its holder on his belt. In the end, a school security employee helped detain the 15-year-old.

The teenager was charged with three offenses, including sending written threats to kill or cause bodily harm, obstructing police by depriving an officer of means of protection or communication, and resisting without violence. The report states clearly that Donald Trump was the target of the threats.

The teenager’s guardian told investigators that she does not have access to firearms. The girl’s identity has not been released because of her age and the severity of her disability.

Earlier the same day in Daytona Beach, 21-year-old Allison Albro was arrested. The young woman posted a photo of herself online with a caption in which she said, word for word, that she would go to Trump’s rally and “shoot him with her Glock.” Some time later, Secret Service agents knocked on the door of her mother’s home. The 21-year-old was taken into custody and held without bail.
