U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose said Sunday that President Donald Trump shares in the grief of the loved ones of those killed in Saturday’s tragedy in Kraków. In a post on X, Rose stressed that “all of America mourns” the victims and that Poland remains “an extraordinarily safe, peaceful and orderly country.”
“The magnitude of the shock that yesterday’s monstrous crime in Kraków has caused in Poland is striking. Violence on this scale is not only unheard of here; it is simply unthinkable and completely alien to the Polish national character,” the American diplomat wrote on X.
Rose stressed that Poland is “so remarkably safe, peaceful and orderly precisely because its people are so decent.”
“It is something extraordinarily precious to be in a country where such evil remains so foreign to everyday life, where an entire nation recoils in horror at the very thought of it, and where the depth of grief reveals the true goodness of its people,” the U.S. ambassador to Poland said.
He said that “today, as Poland mourns the victims, U.S. President Donald Trump and America mourn them together with her.”
It is Rose’s second post on X about the tragedy in Kraków. On Saturday, the American diplomat said that “America stands with Poland and the beloved citizens of Kraków in this dark hour.”
On Saturday at about 3 p.m., a 24-year-old man opened fire on random people in the Main Square (Rynek Główny) in Kraków, killing six people and wounding 15. He was also wounded and is in police custody. Under a decision by President Karol Nawrocki, a two-day period of national mourning has been in effect in Poland since midnight. (PAP)
