NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said police have seized 4,500 illegal firearms since the start of 2026. The number of people shot in the city is 100 lower than in the same period last year, according to police data.
At least 14 people were detained Wednesday after demonstrators blocked traffic toward Brooklyn on the Brooklyn Bridge, protesting ICE, gun violence and the NYPD. The blockade lasted more than half an hour.
