Nicki Minaj and New York Gov. Hochul Clash: ‘You Will Not Escape the Wrath of God’

American rapper Nicki Minaj has posted a series of harsh messages on social media aimed at New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. The artist called the Democrat a “bad woman” and warned that she “will not escape the wrath of God.” At the same time, she urged voters to back Hochul’s Republican rival, Bruce Blakeman. The governor did not let the remarks go unanswered, suggesting that Minaj’s appearances at Donald Trump’s rallies are negatively affecting how she perceives reality.

The public exchange took place Wednesday, Oct. 28, just days before the New York gubernatorial election. Nicki Minaj posted on the platform X questioning the Democratic Party’s continued support for Kathy Hochul. In her view, the party should drop the incumbent governor as its candidate, because even a victory by Hochul would have negative consequences for Democrats.

The artist did not stop at one post. In a follow-up, she addressed Black voters and Christians directly, questioning whether they were right to support the Democratic governor. She accused Hochul of staying silent about the suffering of innocent people and criticized her earlier remarks about children growing up in New York’s Bronx. She was referring to comments Hochul made in May 2024 at a conference on AI, when the governor said that some Black children in the Bronx “don’t even know what a computer is.” Minaj ended her appeal with an unequivocal endorsement of Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for governor.

Reporters asked Gov. Hochul to respond to Minaj’s criticism at a campaign rally in Albany. The leader of the Empire State suggested in reply that the rapper should spend less time online and stop attending events organized by Donald Trump.

“When Donald Trump and the MAGA world disappear, going back to the dark holes they crawled out of, perhaps we will see a kind of awakening. Then she and others like her will understand that they were fed a vision of this country that has nothing to do with what Americans feel. So the fact that she is now on the margins is her own choice,” Hochul said.

Bruce Blakeman also joined the exchange. The Republican candidate welcomed Minaj’s endorsement and himself criticized the sitting governor.
