After securing a third term as governor in Tuesday’s election, JB Pritzker met in Washington on Thursday with other leading Democrats. They came to the U.S. capital for a post-election discussion.
Politicians from the party will take control of Capitol Hill in January, not only in the House of Representatives but also in the Senate. The meeting was organized by the Center for American Progress. During it, Pritzker spoke about his decisive victory and about why he had financially supported Democrats across the country.
Pritzker contributed more than $40 million to support Democratic Party candidates in the midterm elections. More than $1 million went to Democrat Gina Hinojosa, who ran for governor of Texas. She managed to defeat Pritzker’s longtime rival, the incumbent Republican governor, Greg Abbott.
Pritzker also backed the campaign of Scott Colom, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Mississippi, by purchasing $1 million in ads. Votes are still being counted in that state, and the margin between the Democrat and Cindy Hyde-Smith is small.
