Harrison Avenue in downtown Panama City has won the 2026 Great Places in Florida People’s Choice Award, presented by the Florida chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Florida). The street received the most votes among the four finalists in the 13th edition of the competition.
Four locations in Florida competed for this year’s honor. Besides Harrison Avenue, the finalists were the city of Bonita Springs, Palm City Place & Patio and Wellington Town Center. The winner was chosen by public vote, and the street in downtown Panama City received the most support.
This year’s theme was “Great People-Focused Places.” According to APA Florida, the organizers wanted to draw attention to spaces designed to encourage residents and visitors to meet, explore their surroundings and come back again.
The organizers of the competition emphasize that a well-planned urban space can foster connections, strengthen neighborly ties and build a sense of community.
