Florida Opens Enrollment for 2027 Obamacare Plans

Must read

Floridians who buy insurance through healthcare.gov can start choosing plans for next year on Sunday, Nov. 1. Enrollment covers coverage under the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.

In 2027, twelve insurance companies will operate on the healthcare.gov marketplace in the state, and subsidies are available to lower monthly premiums. Three more companies offer Obamacare-compliant plans outside healthcare.gov. The list of available plans depends on the county where you live.

Enrollment deadlines: The enrollment period runs through Dec. 15 for coverage that begins at the start of next year. For policies taking effect Feb. 1, 2027, enrollment is open through Jan. 15. Florida does not have its own insurance exchange, so the entire process goes through healthcare.gov.

Premiums will rise. The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation said the approved average increase is 10.4%. The average monthly premium per person rises from $811 to $898, before federal subsidies are applied. The office notes that this figure does not account for the effect of subsidies. The final amount therefore depends on household income and the plan chosen.

The market is large. More than 3.85 million Floridians enrolled through the federal marketplace and paid their first premium for 2026 coverage. An AP analysis of data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) shows that 442,785 Floridians who had an Obamacare plan in 2025 were without insurance in 2026.

Practical tips: Before choosing a plan, log in to healthcare.gov and update your income information for 2027. It is worth comparing offers rather than automatically renewing your current plan. Losing other coverage, moving to Florida, getting married or having a baby can open a special enrollment period, usually lasting 60 days.
