Florida Stays Mostly Dry Until Friday, Then Heavy Rain Possible Over Halloween Weekend

Must read

Florida will be mostly dry through Friday, with only isolated passing showers. The weather will change over the weekend.

On Saturday, Halloween, rain moving in from the Atlantic will reach the southeastern coast. Forecasts do not call for a complete washout, as passing showers are expected to alternate with dry periods. In Miami, the chance of rain Saturday evening is 60 percent, according to the National Weather Service. A CBS News Miami meteorologist said showers could arrive during trick-or-treating hours, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

More rain is forecast for Sunday and Monday. Some of it could be heavy and lead to minor flooding. For South Florida, the Sunday forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of rain and a high of 84°F (29°C).

Weather in the central part of the state will be similar. On Saturday, winds are expected to pick up, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph (32–48 km/h), and showers are forecast to cover 30–40 percent of the area. On Sunday and Monday, coverage could reach 60–80 percent. The southern part of the region could get 1 to 2 inches of rain (2.5–5 cm).

In the Florida Panhandle, the heaviest rain is most likely from Saturday night through Sunday. In the state’s northeast, Sunday is expected to be the rainiest day of the forecast, with a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.

On Thursday, temperatures in Miami reached about 88°F (31°C). The worst of the high tides known as king tides has passed, but coastal flooding is still possible during Friday’s high tides. Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so clocks must be set back one hour. Forecasts could still change, and stations say they will provide more precise rain timing in the coming days.
