Must read

Illinois voters once again overwhelmingly backed Democratic politicians in the midterm elections. The elections were held across the United States and can already be described with certainty as a blue wave.

Democrats will take control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. In the House, they won 228 seats and Republicans won 139, while the Senate will have 54 Democrats and 44 Republicans. Nationwide, voters decided that Democratic governors will lead 28 states, including Illinois, and Republican governors will lead 20.

In Illinois, Democrat Sean Casten secured reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives from the 6th District. Lauren Underwood, who represents Illinois’ 14th District, will also remain in Congress. Republican Darin LaHood will continue to represent the 16th District. Delia Ramirez secured reelection to the U.S. House from Illinois’ 3rd District.

Patty Garcia will replace her former boss, Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, in the 4th District. Republican Mary Miller secured reelection to the U.S. House from the 15th District, and Democrat Bill Foster did the same in the 11th District. Democrat Melissa Bean will again sit in the U.S. House from the 8th District. She will replace Raja Krishnamoorthi, who gave up his seat after an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate.

Donna Miller won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District. Miller, who had served as a Cook County commissioner, will replace Robin Kelly, who gave up her seat after an unsuccessful bid for a U.S. Senate seat.

Former Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss won the race for the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois’ 9th District. La Shawn Ford, a Chicago Democrat and until now an Illinois state representative, won a seat in the U.S. Congress from the 7th District.
