Arizona ACA Premiums to Rise Nearly 28% in 2027

The average premium for Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace plans in Arizona will rise about 28% in 2027. The open enrollment period for health insurance begins Nov. 1.

According to data cited by KJZZ, the average increase nationwide will be about 15%, which puts Arizona among the states with the largest hikes. A healthinsurance.org comparison shows a wide gap between states, from about 3% in Vermont to nearly 28% in Arizona.

This is the second year in a row that plan prices are rising sharply. The enhanced premium tax credits, which significantly lowered costs for most enrollees, expired at the end of 2025. Congress failed to reach an agreement on extending them. Data from KFF, cited by KJZZ in July, show that people with plans are paying nearly 60% more per month than before.

The number of people with coverage has also changed. According to federal data, in February 2026 more than 100,000 fewer Arizonans had signed up and paid their first premium than a year earlier. That is a drop of nearly 30%, one of the largest in the country. KJZZ’s report says many healthy people dropped their coverage. Among those who remain, more have costlier insurance.

Hempstead, cited by KJZZ, notes that the causes of the increase are the same as in other states, but the situation in Arizona looks worse. Hempstead recommends not automatically renewing an existing plan, but comparing the available options. In Hempstead’s view, a plan with a lower monthly premium may cover so few services that a more expensive one turns out to be the better choice.

Arizona uses the federal Healthcare.gov platform. Enrollment for 2027 runs from Nov. 1, 2026, to Jan. 15, 2027. Those who choose a plan by Dec. 15 will have coverage starting Jan. 1. Choosing a plan between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15 means coverage starts Feb. 1. In 2027, the maximum annual out-of-pocket cost for services covered by a plan will rise to $12,000, up from $10,600 in 2026.
