Police in Tallahassee, Florida, have arrested 15-year-old Anthony Rivers III in connection with a shooting Saturday evening near Florida A&M University (FAMU). Twelve people were injured, including six children. Eleven suffered gunshot wounds. One person was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Prosecutors have already announced that the teenager will be tried as an adult.

The suspect was taken into custody Sunday, but the arrest was not announced in a Tallahassee Police Department statement until Monday.

Rivers has been charged with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a person previously found to have committed an offense as a juvenile. State Attorney Jack Campbell confirmed that the 15-year-old will face trial as an adult.

The shooting took place near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, close to Bragg Memorial Stadium. According to police’s preliminary findings, a physical confrontation among a group of acquaintances occurred before the shots were fired.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the youngest victim is 11 years old. At least three people suffered serious injuries. According to a police statement Sunday, six victims remained in hospitals, including one in critical condition, and five had been discharged. The twelfth victim, the grandmother of one of the other victims, was not shot by the attacker. She was injured while fleeing the scene.

Investigators believe none of the injured people was the intended target of the attack.

The investigation is ongoing, and officers have not ruled out further arrests.
