Children trick-or-treating on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, can expect warm weather. Forecasters, however, are predicting scattered showers and thunderstorms. A day later, on Sunday, daylight saving time ends.
In the Tampa Bay area, the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a daytime high of about 86°F (30°C) on Saturday, with sun and a 20 percent chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. In the evening, during trick-or-treating, the temperature will drop to about 69°F (21°C), and the chance of rain to 10 percent.
In the northeastern part of the state, around Jacksonville, the weekend is expected to be calmer after a windy week, with temperatures typical for this time of year – about 70–80°F (21–27°C) during the day – and a slight chance of rain. In the southeast, including Miami, passing showers and elevated water levels during high tides remain possible.
On Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m., clocks go back one hour, to 1 a.m. That means an extra hour of sleep, but it will get dark earlier in the evening. Most phones and computers will change the time automatically – it’s worth remembering the clocks in your car, on your stove or in your oven.
Before heading out with children, it’s a good idea to bring a flashlight or reflective gear, and an umbrella in case of a passing shower.
