The family of Nicole Mabon-Brewer, 47, who was found shot to death in her Gary, Indiana, home in September 2025, is demanding a full explanation of the circumstances of her death. Her relatives say she repeatedly warned them about her husband, former Gary City Council member Ron Brewer, before she died. He is now seeking to return to the City Council. The investigation into her death has concluded, and a special prosecutor is reviewing the findings.
Nicole Mabon-Brewer Found Dead in Her Home
Nicole Mabon-Brewer, 47, died on Sept. 3, 2025. Her body, with a gunshot wound, was found in a home in Gary. The circumstances of her death have not been officially determined, and no one has been criminally charged in the case.
The woman’s daughter, Kayla Green, and her father, George Mabon, say that before her death Nicole warned loved ones about her husband, Ron Brewer, a former council member and president of the Gary City Council.
According to her daughter, the woman told several people that her husband had threatened to kill her and then stage it as a suicide. Green says she also heard similar warnings from her mother.
The family says the marriage, which lasted more than 20 years, was going through a serious crisis. Nicole was reportedly planning to separate from her husband just a few weeks before her death.
The woman’s relatives believe the circumstances of her death require especially thorough examination. They stress, however, that investigators have not so far confirmed their suspicions.
Former Gary Council Member Seeks Public Office Again
Ron Brewer lost his council seat in May. He is now seeking appointment to a vacant seat on the Gary City Council.
Nicole’s family points to the man’s earlier problems with the justice system. In 2019, he was charged with kidnapping, unlawful confinement and intimidation of a 14-year-old boy.
According to police findings at the time, Brewer allegedly found his stolen car in East Chicago, fired shots toward teenagers inside the vehicle and then took one of them to Gary against his will.
Court documents show the charges were later dropped after Brewer completed a six-month rehabilitation program.
Nicole’s relatives also wonder whether her husband’s connections at the Gary Police Department could have influenced how the case was handled. They say they did not feel comfortable bringing their concerns to local officers.
Investigation Concluded; Special Prosecutor Reviewing Findings
Indiana State Police said the investigation into the death of Nicole Mabon-Brewer has been completed and the collected materials have been handed over to a special prosecutor.
The prosecutor is currently reviewing the results of the investigation. No decision on possible charges has been announced so far.
Media outlets tried to obtain comment from the Gary Police Department by phone and email but received no response.
The case remains unresolved, and the woman’s family continues to demand answers about her death.
