Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Tuesday that a trilateral meeting with representatives of Ukraine and the United States will take place next week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported.
Vladimir Medinsky, an adviser to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, is expected to head the Russian delegation at the talks scheduled for Nov. 10 and 11.
Peskov also expressed hope that arrangements for a planned meeting of the leaders of the U.S., Russia and China could be finalized in the coming days. It could take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China, planned for Nov. 17-18.
“There is a general understanding among the participants that a potential meeting would be highly useful,” Peskov told reporters.
White House special envoy Steve Witkoff said Monday that talks between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by the Americans, would be held in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 10-11. Before that, the U.S. delegation will meet with European representatives in Brussels.
On Oct. 21, Putin agreed to resume peace negotiations with Kyiv with Washington’s involvement. It was the result of intensified diplomatic efforts by the White House, as well as Witkoff’s meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leaders of Norway and Finland in Oslo, and then with Putin in St. Petersburg.
