Probably the oldest resident of Illinois has voted in the midterm elections. Nancy Rossi, 108, of Wheaton, cast her ballot Sunday at the DuPage County Fairgrounds polling place. “I was born on April 10, 1918, and I live with my daughter,” Rossi said.
She admitted that she had not voted for 40 years because she was disillusioned with political corruption. Rossi was driven to the polls by her daughter, Carmine Pollack, who said voting was very important to her mother. “She said we have to vote, because if we don’t vote, we can’t complain,” Pollack said. Rossi was one of many voters who took advantage of shorter lines on Sunday ahead of Election Day itself, which takes place Tuesday.
Data from the DuPage County election commission show that turnout there had exceeded 21.4% by Sunday, at least five percentage points higher than the statewide average.
