Chicago’s official Christmas tree has been chosen. This year, a 50-foot Norway spruce from the western suburbs will stand in Millennium Park.
The tree, which grew in the yard of the Clark family of Campton Hills, was donated by the family. The lighting ceremony for the Windy City’s Christmas tree will take place on Friday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. It will be the 113th lighting ceremony for Chicago’s Christmas tree in Millennium Park. The tree will be cut down Monday morning and then transported to Millennium Park on Wednesday, ahead of the lighting ceremony. Visitors will be able to see the tree in the park through Jan. 10.
The city’s annual tree lighting ceremony began in 1913 in Grant Park. It was later moved to Daley Plaza, and in 2015 to its current location in Millennium Park.
