More than 280,000 Chicago residents had voted in the midterm elections as of Sunday, just under 20% of registered voters. By Sunday evening, nearly 180,000 voters had cast ballots in person during early voting, and more than 100,000 mail-in ballots had been returned, the Chicago election commission reported.

Voters still have a chance today to take part in early voting. Those who are not registered can register and vote the same day, just as on Election Day itself. Only U.S. citizens may vote in the elections. Green card holders are not eligible. Under Illinois law, polling places across the state will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

It is worth noting that, as of Saturday, more than 50.5 million people had voted across the United States. According to the data, more than 173 million people are registered to vote. In Illinois, more than 8.4 million residents have registered to vote. Gov. JB Pritzker said more than 1.2 million voters had cast ballots.
