The reward for information leading to the person responsible for the brutal abuse and killing of six dogs in Will County, Illinois, has grown to $25,000. The animals’ bodies were found in March in trash bags in a wooded area near the town of Crete. Investigators have still not determined who is responsible.
Six Dead Dogs Found in Trash Bags
The grisly discovery was made in early March near the intersection of Norfolk Avenue and Kings Road in Crete. Six dogs were found in trash bags that had been dumped in a wooded area.
According to authorities, the animals showed signs of abuse. Investigators do not rule out that they may have been used in dogfighting.
No one has been arrested so far. The investigation faces additional obstacles because some of the evidence collected was contaminated, making it impossible to use DNA material.
Reward Increases Fivefold
Initially, $5,000 was offered for help in identifying the perpetrator. The amount was raised to $25,000 with support from the organization Pets & Vets USA, which contributed an additional $20,000.
Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow stressed that cruelty to animals is not only a matter of protecting animals but also of public safety. He pointed to research showing a link between violence toward animals and a tendency toward aggression against people.
How to Give Investigators Information
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers of Will County. Tips are accepted anonymously. Each person who provides information receives a special identification number that allows them to claim the reward if prosecutors decide to file charges.
Investigators are appealing for help from anyone who may know who is responsible for the deaths of the six dogs.
