“Lalka” (“The Doll”) is heading to New England! The 2026 Polish Film Festival North America is coming to Massachusetts. On Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Picture Show theater in Fall River, about an hour’s drive from Boston, audiences can see Maciej Kawalski’s “Lalka,” a film whose tickets are selling out quickly in city after city.

“Lalka” in Fall River, Near Boston
The new adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s novel is one of the most anticipated Polish productions of the year. Set in Warsaw in the late 19th century, it follows Stanisław Wokulski, a merchant who has made a fortune, and his obsessive love for Izabela Łęcka, the daughter of an impoverished aristocrat. The lead roles are played by Marcin Dorociński (Wokulski), Kamila Urzędowska (Izabela Łęcka) and Marek Kondrat (Rzecki). Maja Komorowska, Andrzej Seweryn, Krystyna Janda and Jan Englert also appear on screen.
The film is shown in its original Polish with English subtitles, making it a good chance to bring along friends who don’t speak Polish.
