Allison Jeanne Albro, 21, of Daytona Beach, Florida, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 29, after posting a message on Instagram threatening to shoot the U.S. president. She said she would carry out the attack at a campaign rally scheduled for Friday evening in her city. According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect admitted to writing the post but maintained it was a “joke.”
FBI and Secret Service agents found the 21-year-old’s post online and then notified the local sheriff’s office.
In the post, which was accompanied by a photo of the woman, Albro wrote that she planned to go to Trump’s rally the next day to shoot him “with her Glock.” The reckless post ended with sheriff’s deputies and Secret Service agents visiting her home in Daytona Beach.
Albro immediately told investigators that she knew why they had come and that she had already deleted the post from Instagram. She said her mother, with whom she had spoken earlier, advised her to do so. Her mother warned her that it could end in her arrest.
The 21-year-old explained that she does not support Trump but did not intend to hurt anyone. She also assured investigators that she does not own a Glock, has no access to firearms and “doesn’t like guns.” During a search of the home, conducted with her consent, officers indeed found no weapons, ammunition or related accessories.
The young woman’s “joke” did not amuse the “sad men” from the agencies. The 21-year-old was charged with making written threats to kill or cause bodily injury and with unlawful use of a communications device. What’s more, at her first hearing a judge ordered her held without bail. Her next hearing is to take place within five days. Until then, Albro will remain in pretrial detention in Volusia County.
According to voter registration records, the 21-year-old is registered as a voter… for the Republican Party.
