U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers on Monday, Oct. 19, arrested William Nikolas Moraitis, 20, who was wanted in connection with a sex crime against a 15-year-old girl. He was apprehended at the port in Miami, Florida, where he intended to board a cruise ship. “His next trip is a journey to the Green Roof Inn,” the Flagler County sheriff said. Locals jokingly refer to the county jail as the “Green Roof Inn.”
The case concerns an incident that took place on April 8, 2025. According to investigators, Moraitis, who was 18 at the time, showed up unannounced at the teenager’s home in the early morning hours. The girl had reportedly refused him earlier when he asked whether he could come over to have sex with her.
According to the victim’s account, she knew the man carried a gun and was therefore afraid to refuse to let him into the house through the window. She noticed a pistol in his waistband, though the suspect did not use it. Despite another refusal, he allegedly went on to commit a sex crime.
A few hours after the incident, the girl reported it to the security officer at her school. Investigators secured evidence, including DNA, that linked Moraitis to the case. They also determined that the man was aware the girl was a minor.
“In August 2024, when the girl told him she was turning 15, he replied that he was ‘too old’ for her and that he would turn 18 in 12 days,” the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Based on the evidence gathered, an arrest warrant for the 20-year-old was issued a few days ago. The suspect was charged with sexual activity with a person who is at least 12 years old but not yet 16.
After his arrest at the port, Moraitis was taken to the Metrowest Detention Center in Miami-Dade County, where he awaited transfer to Flagler County authorities.
