Trump Reportedly Consulted Grok AI on Ousting Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro

Democratic congressmen Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia wrote to President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanding that he preserve all records of his conversations with Grok and other AI models. According to media reports, Trump consulted Grok on the question of ousting Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

In a letter published by Politico, the deputy heads of the Judiciary and Oversight committees asked Trump whether he had consulted Grok, the chatbot from Elon Musk’s xAI, or other artificial intelligence models about his decisions.

The lawmakers stressed that the Presidential Records Act requires all conversations with AI models to be preserved.

The congressmen based their letter on reporting by Time magazine, which, citing a source close to the president, said Trump asked Grok how Venezuelans would receive the ousting of Nicolas Maduro. In response, he reportedly read that Maduro is a brutal and unpopular dictator and that his removal would likely be celebrated by the people of Venezuela.

After “hours” spent with Grok during a meeting with Elon Musk in December 2025, Trump reportedly concluded that the model was brilliant. A few weeks later, the intervention in Venezuela took place. Other reports have said that AI models were used to plan the operation itself, as well as the subsequent strikes on Iran.

“If the American president is relying on policy advice from a Hitler-friendly, Musk-designed chatbot with a taste for child pornography to carry out his official duties, Americans have a right to know,” the politicians wrote in the letter, alluding to some of Grok’s posts on the X platform that praised Hitler. They accused the president of consulting Grok but not Congress.

The congressmen warned that the president’s reliance on advice from AI models poses a potential cybersecurity and operational security risk. They also pointed to AI’s tendency to make mistakes and to outsiders’ manipulation of the models’ responses. In that context, they stressed that Musk had influenced the content generated by Grok.

“If an unelected oligarch is influencing U.S. policy through his AI-created alter ego, Americans have a right to know how government decisions are being made,” the congressmen wrote.

In January 2026, Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and taken out of Venezuela by American commandos. They were transported to New York, where they were charged with drug trafficking offenses.

Nicolas Maduro led Venezuela’s socialist government from 2013 and pursued policies hostile to the U.S. After his capture by American forces, he called himself a “prisoner of war.” He had previously accused Washington many times of seeking to overthrow him in order to take control of Venezuela’s rich oil reserves.
