“Kościuszko,” an English-language short film recalling Poland’s contribution to the American war of independence, will premiere Wednesday on YouTube. The film was made possible by a fundraising drive among Polish Americans and the support of the Kościuszko Foundation in New York.

The film was produced by the NOSTROMO studio, following its production of “Pułaski,” released for the American July 4 anniversary, which told the story of the other Polish hero of the American war of independence, Kazimierz Pułaski.

The project is part of the commemorations of the 250th anniversary of the declaration of U.S. independence and, as the studio’s creators noted, will be “the first film production to show the story, absent from the screen until now, that made Kościuszko a legend of the fight for the independence of the United States.” It portrays Tadeusz Kościuszko’s path through the American war of independence, from Fort Ticonderoga through Saratoga to West Point, told from the perspective of an American narrator.

The production is the work of NOSTROMO (Krzysztof Noworyta, Filip Syczyński and Tommy Zee), a studio that specializes in telling stories of Polish history and culture using new technologies. It is also the creators’ second film, after the animated “Pułaski,” reminding Americans of Poland’s role in the fight for their independence.

“The film ‘Kościuszko’ was born out of a desire to tell the story of Poland’s contribution to the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, and since this anniversary year is still going on, we are not slowing down. After the success of ‘Pułaski’ (a film prepared for July 4), ‘Kościuszko’ was a natural choice. Both heroes have been given a human face and cinematic energy,” Krzysztof Noworyta said, as quoted in the studio’s statement.

The film was made largely with funds raised by Polish Americans, as well as donors from Poland. The production was also supported by the New York-based Kościuszko Foundation.

The premiere will take place on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. on YouTube. (PAP)
