The only way to resolve the dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal is for President Karol Nawrocki to administer the oath to the judges elected by the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty said. “Hands off, Mr. President, off the Tribunal; the judges are putting an end to this pathology,” he added.
At a Monday press conference in the Sejm, Czarzasty said the only way to resolve the dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal is not a “reset, a change to the constitution, or praising those who break the law,” but “the acceptance by President Karol Nawrocki of the official oath from the judges of the Constitutional Tribunal.”
In Czarzasty’s view, on the government’s part “this is a fight for democracy” that “citizens expected from the people who won three years ago.” “They expected effectiveness, just as they now expect from the judges elected in accordance with the law — effectiveness and independence,” Czarzasty added.
“Hands off the Constitutional Tribunal, Mr. President. Hands off the Constitutional Tribunal, Mr. Braun, Mr. Kaczyński, Mr. Morawiecki, Mr. Bosak. Hands off,” the speaker said.
He added that “either we end this pathology, or we will keep smearing it over, inventing excuses and calling it different names.” “A pathology is a pathology, and the judges are putting an end to it,” he said. (PAP)
